Understanding and adapting cultural dynamics to the socio-ecological transition
This major professional development event will be held at theEspace culturel de Repentigny from June 3 to 6, 2024 under the theme Culture, environmental justice and socio-ecological transition.
This annual 4-day event includes the Forum, the Les Arts et la Ville Awards Evening, exploratory tours of the region and the Network’s Annual General Meeting.
A highly topical theme
Environmental issues are transforming our environments and impacting our lifestyles:
- Climate change
- Protecting biodiversity
- Socio-ecological transition
- Environmental justice
- Carbon footprint
- Adopting eco-responsible behaviour
- Local consumption
These issues are increasingly being discussed in the public arena, and resonate with citizens. New societal and cultural expectations are taking root at the heart of communities.
Time for reflection, but also for action
- In such a world, where change is accelerating and giving way to numerous social, cultural, economic and environmental upheavals, what place does culture now occupy?
- How can it fit into a context where citizens’ values and expectations are changing?
- How can culture help communities make this social and identity transition?
In these times of uncertainty and global transformation, communities need to redefine themselves and transform their outlook from a sustainable development perspective. This requires them to regularly reposition themselves and find appropriate, concrete solutions in collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders.
Quite a challenge… one we’ll be tackling together at the next Forum!
An unmissable training and networking opportunity
Conferences, panels, workshops, exploratory visits, case studies, inspiring initiatives and networking activities are on the program. Hear from a wide range of speakers and experts from different regions and spheres of activity. Talk to the 300 or so participants who are interested in the same issues as you!
Who is this Forum for?
- Elected representatives
- Municipal public service workers
- Artists
- Cultural professionals
- Researchers
- Students
- Government representatives
Moreover, in the transversal spirit of the Agenda 21 for culture, the Forum brings together people from all sectors of society who are interested in culture as an agent of social transformation.
Eco-friendly, local event
In keeping with the Forum’s theme, the Les Arts et la Ville network is striving to reduce the event’s environmental footprint. In addition to ensuring accessibility, local provenance is a priority for menu development, and wherever possible, suppliers are chosen from the host region.
Constellation; s’offrir l’inconnu is a trilogy of forums based on the image of a constellation, with each annual event unfolding in resonance with the other two. More specifically, the aim of the forum is to link the notions of culture and community, as the two come together while propelling the other. Forum 2024 is the third and final part of this trilogy.
